Traditional Education vs Online Education

The rapid advancement in technology has given rise to a new form of education known as online education. It allows students to study remotely through the use of the Internet. Notably, online education has become highly popular among students because it offers flexible classes. On the other hand, there is the traditional education which has been there for a long time. It requires students to attend physical classes in a specific location. Even though, both online education and traditional education focus on impacting knowledge on the students, the former is more effective and exciting because it fits the interests and needs of the students.

It can be argued that online education offers students ample time to study. They are able to read at their own convenient time. Besides, online education allows students to work part-time either day or night; thus, they can raise a good amount of money that they can use to pay for their college education. However, traditional education does not offer such privileges. It requires students to be in the class at a particular time. Moreover, it is difficult for a student to work part-time while still attending a traditional education class.

Another argument for online education is that it is more affordable to students than traditional education. Typically, students are not required to rent housing near the educational institutions. The lack of housing needs significantly reduces the overall education costs for students. Also, there is no need for them to rent classrooms. Moreover, students do not have to pay for travel expenses to their educational institutions. On the other hand, traditional education requires students to rent both classrooms and housing facilities. Besides, they have to pay for travel expense to their institution of choice. Undoubtedly, the overall education cost for online education is far less than the overall cost incurred in traditional education (Emerson & Bruce 731).

It can be argued that online education offers education opportunities to students from various countries of the world. There are those countries which do not have credible universities, but have Internet access. In this case, students from such countries can study online regardless of their geographical locations. For example, a student from Kuwait can take an online course that is offered by a university in the United States. On the other hand, traditional education restricts access to quality education to people within the physical location of the educational facility. This clearly discourages many people from advancing their studies. Even though, the conveniency to attend an educational institution does not assure quality education, it is essential to offer an opportunity for someone to enjoy his or her education. Definitely, online education offers this opportunity.

On the other hand, traditional education offers great benefits to the students. It can be argued that traditional educational is more credible than online education. Traditional education requires face to face interaction between the students and teachers. In this way, teachers can assess their students, and determine their weakness; thus, they can help them improve and get better grades in their examinations. Besides, students are able to prove their identity when undertaking their examinations. This helps in increasing the credibility of traditional education. However, online education rarely requires students to verify their identities when they are undertaking their examinations. Even though, there are computer programs that can be used to identify a student, crook students are able to bypass this security measure. Thus, it becomes difficult to prove a case of examination cheating by a student. Clearly, traditional education is more credible than online education.

It can be argued that traditional education enables students to interact with fellow students. The social life of an individual is particularly valuable to the development of a person. Thus, it is essential for students to interact with fellow students in order to build their social life. Notably, most of the students get their best friends from colleges. The interaction equips students with essential social skills that are vital in tackling real problems in the real world. Notably, when students leave their educational institutions, they are more prepared to face the social problems in the world. Certainly, students who have gone through traditional education are able to interact with other people courteously. On the other hand, online education does not allow students to interact socially with each other (Angiello 57). Thus, it does not help in improving the social life of a student.

Also, it can be argued that traditional education helps students to improve on both their writing and speaking skills. It is essential for students to be equipped with both writing and speaking skills in order for them to become better students. These skills help in improving the performance of a student. Notably, traditional education requires students to be present in a class; thus, they are able to articulate their views intelligibly on different subject matters. On the other hand, online education focuses on only improving the writing skills of a student. Thus, students who pursue online degrees are not able to speak eloquently.

In conclusion, online education is far better than traditional education. It gives students ample time to study on their degree courses and is more affordable than traditional education. Besides, online education provides opportunities for students from various parts of the world to pursue quality education. Nevertheless, online education needs to start focusing on improving the speaking skills of the students. Even though, both traditional education and online education are focused on impacting knowledge on the students, the latter is more effective and exciting because it suits the interests and needs of students from the different parts of the world.
